Feeding Matters Receives $500 NewcleusGives Donation on Behalf of Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and Newcleus CU Advisors

Alaska USA Federal Credit Union won a $500 donation to the charity of their choice during the Mountain West 2022 Annual Meeting and Convention in Colorado Springs, CO via Newcleus Gives. Roland Pilapil, Vice President, Branch Administration at Alaska USA, directed that donation to Feeding Matters, an organization with deep ties to Alaska USA FCU.

Feeding Matters is a non-profit organization in Phoenix, Arizona serving children and their families nationally and internationally since 2006. Feeding Matters dedicates its resources to bringing awareness to pediatric feeding disorders (PFD), educating families on the steps for care, and providing advocation techniques to support the children who suffer from PFD.

“More than 1 in 37 children have PFD under the age of 5 in the US annually. For these children, eating, drinking, and swallowing are painful and frightening – ultimately affecting their behavioral, physical, and emotional development.”

Even with the prevalence of PFD, it has not been considered a stand-alone diagnosis long. Feeding Matters has been instrumental in funding research and publications including the consensus paper “Pediatric Feeding Disorder (PFD)—Consensus Definition and Conceptual Framework” in the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition and in 2020 getting PFD to be included in the US-ICD-10 medical handbook, which will open significant opportunities to improve the system of care including insurance reimbursement, tracking prevalence data, and allocating much-needed research dollars. Feeding Children also created the Infant and Child Feeding Questionnaire (ICFQ) to earlier identify children with PFD.

Tedd Meyer, Regional Managing Director of Newcleus Credit Union, Jaclyn Pederson of Feeding Matters and Roland Palapil, of Alaska USA Federal Credit Union celebrate Roland’s donation to Feeding Matters via NewcleusGives.

“Alaska FCU has been a great supporter of Feeding Matters over the years…the organization itself has provided sponsorship of our organization’s past events – allowing us to do more to support families and children,” says Jaclyn Pedersen CEO of Feeding Matters.”

Although founded in Alaska in 1948 and initially only serving territory members (prior to statehood), Alaska USA Federal Credit Union has since expanded to servicing over 709,000 members in all 50 states and with branches located in Alaska, Arizona, California, and Washington”

It is the Arizona branch that connects Alaska USA to Feeding Matters, which is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. In fact, not only does Alaska USA support Feeding Matters at the organizational level, but also at the personal level too. “Todd Pearson, Alaska USA’s Regional President, is our long-time board member and current Board Chair.”

Roland Pilapil, as the Vice President, Branch Administration at Alaska USA has worked with Todd for a number of years and has seen his dedication to Feeding Matters and has seen the impact of Alaska USA’s partnership with them. He was glad to continue that sponsorship with this $500 directed donation.
